• Rattlesnake Avoidance Training

  During rattlesnake avoidance training, each dog goes through a field course with rattlesnakes and is individually trained by staff from High-on Kennels (www.highonkennels.com).  You will be at the clinic for approximately 40-45 minutes.  Dogs must be at least 5 months old and have adult teeth. 

  The appointment schedules fill very quickly - please register and pay online to secure a spot(s) for your dog(s).  IF YOU ARE REGISTERING MORE THAN ONE DOG, PLEASE SELECT TIME SLOTS THAT ALLOW ANOTHER DOG TO RUN IN BETWEEN EACH OF YOUR DOGS - for example, select 08:00 and 08:15 instead of 08:00 and 08:10.  If you are registering more than one dog, you will need to complete and pay for each registration separately.  

  We are releasing morning sessions only for initial registration - once the morning sessions are almost full we will open the afternoon sessions for registration.  Please check back on our website if you prefer an afternoon time slot.

  The cost per dog is $90.00.

  The Speaker – Jennifer Henion

  Jennifer’s goal is to “make it common place for people to use positive methods to train the retriever sports.”  Jennifer has made it her life's mission to learn the science of positive animal training and how to apply it to Hunt Test and Field Trial training.  Her program for teaching retriever field skills for Hunt Tests and Field Trials combines the science from her certification at the Karen Pryor Academy, the games learned from Susan Garrett's work, and field concepts learned from study and participation in Hunt Tests and Field Trials.  We have asked Jennifer to apply her methods to the new AKC game of FETCH to help people master the more challenging parts of dogs retrieving objects.  For more information see Jennifer’s website:  https://www.fieldpuppy.com/

  Saturday, October 19, 2024 – The New Basics – One Technique For All the Tasks

  • Demonstration of the FETCH test at all levels. 
  • Presentation of Jennifer’s Supper Simple Super Effective Heeling-Marking-Steadiness-Return All-In-One.
  • Practice Heeling-Marking-Steadiness-Return All-In-One.
  • Add the distractions (boxes and blinds) and steps for increasing distance. 

  The lunch break will feature a throwing clinic – because if you can’t throw it your dog can’t retrieve it.
  

  
  

  Sunday, October 20, 2024 – The Retrieve Two Ways

  • Review Saturday’s material.
  • Lecture & demonstration of the two ways to teach the pick-up and delivery.

  Method 1. For dogs who have a natural fetch.
  Method 2. For dogs who need to be shaped to pick up and hold an object. 

  • Practice the retrieve. 
  • Building the concepts presented so far to teach Doubles and Triples.
  • Mock Fetch Test for Working Teams (various levels to match participant skills) followed by Q&A.
